A classic first-person shooter and the 7th MOH instalment.

The original Medal of Honor game was a triumph and years ahead of its time. It was fun to play and it still holds up (albeit not that well) today. It was originally conceived because the director Steven Spielberg asked for it specifically. Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault is one in its line of sequels.

The Thing That Will Grind Your Gears

You have to call a medic to heal you because there are no medpacks. Plus, it takes five seconds or so of scripted scene to heal you. It may seem okay at first, but after a while, you will be taking aim at the annoying bugger’s head. It gets most people angry just talking about it. What sort of a misguided developer thought that would be a good idea?!?

Your Team Doesn’t Listen To You

What is the point in giving you a team to work exclusively with, only to have them ignore you? The orders you can give them consist of “advance” and “pull back,” but all of your team have attention deficit disorder and will take your commands with a grain of salt.

It Keeps Making You Go Prone

The previous game was a run-and-shoot game, but this one punishes you for running and shooting. Shoot standing up and your accuracy is terrible, and the same is true if you blast of 100 rounds. If you go prone, then your accuracy increases. You can use the sight on your gun, but it takes a second or two to get into it and you can only get out of it a second or two after you have stopped shooting. It is almost as if the game is trying to slow down the pace and make it more tactical.

The Enemy Has No Regard For Personal Safety

Maybe the makers of the game are taking a swipe at Japanese people for being suicidal, but to be honest it just looks like bad game construction. It is closer to an arcade game where zombies run at you than it is a MOH game. You spend much of your time in Japanese villages, and enemies will jump out of cover to shoot you, or run right at you firing their guns. They must have been trained by pigeons on the highway.

Pros

  • Shooting still feels authentic
  • The graphics are vastly improved compared to previous versions

Cons

  • The weakest game in the series
  • Where have all the medpacks gone?
  • It forces you to go slow
  • Shooting enemy officers makes no difference
  • Very repetitive throughout
